When you come in to visit us one of the questions your consultant will ask is, “What kind of fit are you going for?”
For some girls this is easy and you have pictures to prove it. For others, this may be something you have a hard time articulating until you see the dresses on. Which ever side of the coin you are on be assured your consultant is going to work with you to find what shape is perfect and what stylistically is YOU.
The bridal business uses some special design terms to describe these different fits. Here is a quick tutorial, no need to memorize all this or take notes! Just take a good guess at what you think is pretty and we will lead you from there. Expect to try on a few different styles at your first appointment. We do this to help you funnel out all the options so you can focus in on THE ONE!
Trumpet Gown
This is a cross-bred. You get a tight shapely fit but also a fun skirt without too much volume. This shape fits tight just through the hips and then makes a bell shape out. Often times, designers will use this skirt to do some really fun drama with layering, or fabric changes. Girls who wish to show off their figure will be pleased with the trumpet fit.
Mermaid Gown or Fit and Flare
Ladies with curves you will appreciate how this dress makes you look and feel. This siloutte is very fitted right up until the knees and then the skirt makes eye catching finish. A bride wearing a mermaid will exude a lot of confidence and sass.
Sheath Gown
This shape is form-fitting from head-to-toe. If you are heading some place far, far away or want a wedding that is casual yet intimate this style works well. It looks good on lots of body types but looks especially nice on those that are long and lean.
Ball Gown
If you have dreamed of being a princess on your wedding day, then say YES to the ball gown. The bodice is tight fitting and then comes to a full finish in the skirt. Remember, are not many times in life you can choose this style of dress so go for it now. This looks especially good on girls who are busty because it will create balance between the top and bottom.
A-Line Gown
This style gets the award for “All-Around Team Player.” Almost everyone looks stunning in this classic fit that hugs the torso with an “A” shape flared skirt. When in doubt, try an A-Line on for just the right amount of figure highlighting.
Empire Gown
This siloutte is very romantic. Think Greek Goddess. It is fitted up under the bust and then the skirt gently flows from there. This dress is often loved by girls who like to highlight their top half and not their hips. Different fabrics can give a variety of looks to the empire.
